Maureen McGovern - Nice To Be Around [1974]

1974 / 20th Century - T-439
Most famous (at the time) for chart-topping with the song "The Morning After" from The Poseidon Adventure, Maureen McGovern turns in a stirring album in Nice To Be Around, full of stirring little numbers! "Everybody Wants To Call You Sweetheart" hasn't stopped rotation on my so do check it out! Chances are if you like some or most of the albums available at Vinyl Shipwreck, you will like all that is on offer!

The Beatles - At The Hollywood Bowl [1977]

1977 / MFP / MFP 41 5676 1
A perfect, if slightly studio-faked, snapshot of the Fab Four in their fan-screaming prime, here is a rock&roll audible treat soaked in mid-sixties hysteria. The album is over before you know it, and it's no wonder John, Paul, George & Ringo all decided to retreat to the studio after experiences like this. Personally, I love the abridged "Twist And Shout" at the beginning and Ringo's turn at "Boys". Delightful!

Cliff Richard & The Shadows - Summer Holiday [Mono 1963]

* April 2014 Remaster *
1963 - Mono - EMI - 33SX 1472
Cliff does not get the acclaim he deserves. This might be my most listened to LP of the last year. Breezy with a terrific energy and amazing songs, coupled with a virtuoso backing of The Shadows, Norrie Paramore's production and the Mike Sammes Singers. What more could you ask for? The soundtrack to English Sixties just before Beatle Mania. Available here in MONO which has, to my knowledge, never been released on CD. Let me know what you think!

Bob Crewe - Street Talk (1976)

* new remaster April 2014 *

1976 - Elektra - 7E-1083
So underrated! Bob Crewe, pioneer of The Four Seasons and brilliant composer of the Barbarella soundtrack releases another long player here. Street Talk is a fabulous mix of disco, pop and ooh la la and I ordered it to make up the shipping in an ebay purchase; little did I know it would turn out to be one of my most cherished LPs. Again, unavailable on CD! Enjoy Vinyl Shipwreckers!

Marvin Hamlisch - The Spy Who Loved Me OST [1977]

1977 / United Artists / UAG 30098
I’ve always been a Roger Moore Bond fan as opposed to Connery or Craig or whoever. The seventies pandered to all the aesthetic motifs that I value in a James Bond – and this soundtrack is no exception. Composed by the sprightly Marvin Hamlisch, fresh from his multiple Oscar success with The Sting and included the popular Carly Simon number Nobody Does It Better. This is funky, lounge James Bond trying to compete with the disco crazes of the day.

Henry Mancini - 10 OST [1979]

*New remaster - April 2014*

1979 / Warner / BSK 3399
My favourite Henry Mancini album, and a blissful soundtrack to the mid-life-sex-comedy 10, starring Dudley Moore. All of the arrangements here are a delight, from Mancini's piano solos to his funkier "Keyboard Harmony". I personally go for the Mancini efforts with Chorus, in which he outdoes even Ray Conniff. The film has a lush aesthetic, and so does the soundtrack. I hope you enjoy it! This, in my opinion, is better sound quality than the out of print low fidelity CD you lucky peeps!

Bob Crewe - Barbarella (1968)

1968 / Dynovoice / DY-31908
Has there been a more quirky and yet brilliant soundtrack from the swinging Psychedelic sixties as Barbarella? Supervised by the maestro himself Bob Crewe, and sung by The Glitterhouse, this is arguable a stronger effort than the film itself? This is taken straight from the vinyl and not noise-reduced to hell like many CD reissues.  I love it. So will you.

Bee Gees - Children Of The World [1976]

1976 / RSO SUPER 2394-169
I confess - I posted this because I love this probably more than anyone else. My favourite album other than Tusk and anything by the Beatles. The Bee Gees hit such a creative streak that most of this isn't famous enough to be on Greatest Hits or any compilation. Subway is my most played track on iTunes and the whole album proves they were kings of the dance floor. You Should Be Dancing is still a massive song even today - and famous for the classic Dance solo in Saturday Night Fever. Share my love for the Brothers Gibb with this album!

Deodato - Very Together [1976]

1976 - MCA/EMI - MCF 2774
I adore Deodato. I renewed my love in him when I saw him perform at Ronnie Scott's a few weeks ago. This is very rare indeed. The CD version fetches big bucks and is out of print. This album perfectly encapsulates his fusion of Jazz, Funk, Disco and Seventies Pop. Much better than Meco. Check out the blisteringly awesome Deodato-esque version of Star Trek!!

Oliver - Good Morning Starshine [1969]

1969 / Crewe / CR 1333
Bob Crewe launched solo artist Oliver which resulted in this album, whereby Oliver covered his film namesake and a couple of psychedelic numbers of the day. He had a hit with "Good Morning Starshine" and "Jean", and the groovy production values are first-rate throughout.

LAME 320kbps mp3 here

The rebirth... is the reboot!

Any album with a VS88XX code in the top of the post has been newly remastered and is part of the rebirth of Vinyl Shipwreck.

LP stands for Long Player. So it's my intention to present each album lovingly remastered as a single music file. Split them if you want. I won't. BUT, I will present each one in Apple Lossless - which is iPhone friendly and can easily be converted to any lossy/lossless format you want.

I'll be uploading the albums in DropBox. The only change might be that I switch to LiveDrive.

Happy pillaging!

Lana Cantrell - Lana! [1968]

* New Remaster - April 2014

1968 / RCA / LSP-4026
Lana Cantrell delivers some stirring standards from the late sixties with suitable Lounge oomph and Shirley Bassey Pow! I particularly never tire of her version of "For Me" and her tender "Workin' On A Groovy Thing", but all songs point Lana! towards great album status.

Heatwave - Candles (1980)

* New Remaster - APRIL 2014 *

1980 / CBS/GTO / GTLP 047
Heatwave are such an underrated disco / pop / funk band that are mostly known for their biggest hit "Boogie Nights". I've been seeking out each of their albums for a while now and I can't stop sticking them on heavy rotation. This is a strong, well-engineered, slickly-penned album full of soulful disco awesomeness. Just listen to the previews below to see what I mean! Hopefully more Heatwave coming on VS soon!

John Williams - The Towering Inferno OST [1974]

1974 / Warner/RCA / BS 2840
A classic, ultra-Williams-esque score drenched in thirties' melodrama and seventies-disaster-movie vibe. Different records to the Film Score monthly CD, and featuring Maureen McGovern's Oscar winning title song - this is a pulsating piece of John Williams awesomeness that also resonates with seventies-lounge-cool-chic. I bought this last week on Bleecker St in NYC and here it is!

Samantha Sang - Emotion (1978)

*New Remaster April 2014

1978 / Private Stock / PVLP 1039
The Bee Gees were so prolific as songwriters that some of their best songs were given to other artists in the seventies, and Samantha Sang is essentially a one-hit wonder with Emotion, a fantastic Gibb ballad that defines their latter-seventies work as much as anything from Saturday Night Fever. The whole album is a gem, and as the master tapes were destroyed this hasn't been released in remastered CD form ever - listen to my restoration of the above and tell me if you can find a better version anywhere!

Buckingham Nicks - Buckingham Nicks [1973]

1973 / Polydor / PD 5058
Well look at this! I was in Springfield, MO last week on business and look what turned up at Spit It In Your Ear records!! To make it even more of a swell deal, the record sounds AMAZING. This rare-as-hell release pre-Fleetwood Mac is a dazzling acoustic-rock treat that sounds just as sweet as Rumours! I couldn't get over this find! I've been hlistening to it everyday since. Still not available on CD!

Donovan - A Gift From A Flower To A Garden [Mono 1968]

* New Remaster April 2014 *

1968 - Mono - Pye - NPL 20000
Ah Donovan! This was a double-album curiousity when it came out - but it's quickly become one of his most loved albums - balancing stark acoustic folk with delicious baroque/sunshine pop! 22 loving tracks here - available in remastered mono from the 1968 vinyl - the mono version is no longer available on CD! Enjoy!

Still tinkering...

So I've given the site a tiny refresh...

Also - working out some changes...such as..

Who to host the files with?
What bitrate / format to upload?

To split albums into tracks or not? If I don't - I'll be able to upload albums much quicker - as I listen to my own needledrops as one whole album file.

I'm perfecting my special blend of remastering - using the latest, most expensive techniques with the most-minimal of noise-reduction. I hope you love them.

For the record, I'm demoing around 15 titles so expect them all to hit very soon.

Look forward to hearing feedback in the meantime.

Coming soon????????

I'm coming, I'm coming!

Lots of needledrops are on the way!

So I've been tinkering around the scenes - flying around the world with my job / buying vinyl / enjoying life.

I've missed this. And yes, I'll get round to uploading all of the Paul Williams LPs I have! I get at least one email a day about that.

I've turned off comment moderation after noticing that no one realises I have to approve them first and keeps re-submitting. sigh.

Anyway...There sure be treasure awash on these shores....

Does this mean a comeback? I think so....
