Various Artists - Thank God It's Friday OST [1978]

VS-88060

1978 / Casablanca / NBLP 7099-12.98
I haven't seen the film; I was aware that the lead song won an Oscar - and I only bought this Double LP as it was approximately £1 in a Stockholm Record Store - and boy-oh-boy am I glad I did! Every track is pulsating disco at its best - featuring amongst others Donna Summer (who also as a bonus 12" includes an amazing 15 minute version of "Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus") Remastered here in its breathtaking analogue beauty!

Lou Reed - Rock N Roll Animal [1974]

VS-88059

1974 / RCA / APL1-0472
I purchased this vinyl in Stockholm at the weekend and I was blown away by the dazzling heavy-rock versions that Lou provides to some of his well-known Velvets back-catalogue. This is a blistering forty minute live Rock classic. Supremely mastered for your vinyl-loving tastes...

Burt Bacharach - Burt Bacharach [1971]

VS-88058

* New Remaster September 2014*
1971 / A&M / SP 3501
Sometimes you have to indulge yourself, and no website of mine is complete without a few choice Burt Bacharach albums. If there was one era I could jump back in time to it's the era in which Burt and his groovy-lounge chord sequences were at in the hearts of minds of many pop music lovers everywhere. Anyone who says Burt is "easy" hasn't listened to the six minute version of "Wives And Lovers" or the startling "Freefall". For nice songwriting, check out "Hasbrook Heights". This is one of my alltime favourite albums.

The Sandpipers - Guantanamera [Mono 1966]

VS-88057

1966 / Pye / NPL 28086
A classic album, here released in glorious unavailable-on-CD mono. The low-fi production values and mastering really suit a Mono release of this glorious spanish-tinged mid-sixties masterpiece. The sound is immaculate and so is the listening. Sit by a beach on a sunset evening and enjoy!

Classics IV, a band responsible for three golden hits - Spooky, Traces and Stormy. All covered by a variety of stars, and here is one of their long-players, featuring Stormy and remastered for your well-educated musical tastes!

Sade - Diamond Life [1984]

VS-88055

1984 / Epic / EPC 26044
Sade's original debut album and in my opinion her best. This is eighties' soulful grooves drenched in blissful analogue. There isn't a weak track here - the first side of the album is heavily worn out on my turntable. Check it out!

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '88 - Magic Lady [1979]

VS-88054

1979 / Elektra / 6E-214
Another Sergio Mendes album I hear you cry? Well, this is my favourite, primarily because it sounds like Sergio Mendes have taken residency aboard a disco-besieged Love Boat of the late seventies! The album is split into half forgettable rubbish and half killer! The latter being "Lonely Woman", "You Get Your Love From Me", "Yes I Love You" and "Summer Dream". Check out the Buck Rogers style synths too! Some of you will hate this! Some of you will love it! Let me know...I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT...

Vic Damone - Strange Enchantment [Mono 1962]

VS-88053

1962 / EMI/Capitol / T 1681
Strange Enchantment - exactly what you get with this delightfully lush masterpiece from Vic Damone - Exotica, String, Crooning - picture the front cover of this LP and the album sounds exactly as it looks! In glorious unreleased on CD mono - much better than the Stereo version! Let me know what you think!

The Lovin' Spoonful - Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful [Mono 1966]

VS-88052

1966 / Kama Sutra/MGM / T 90988
I was surprised at how good this sounds in Mono, considering the Stereo version sounds unmemorable aside from the blistering Number One Single of Summer In The City. I like to surprise you Shipwreckers with what I turn up - and I really enjoyed remastering this one! Coconut Grove is a delight too!

The Ventures - Ventures In Space [Mono 1963]

VS-88051

1963 / Dolton / BLP 2027
My favourite Ventures LP, in rare Mono (the CD reissues still in print are all in stereo) and delightfully pounding it's way in a spooky, twangly, guitar instrumental sound. A time capsule of space-age, early-sixties soundtrack noise. Shipwreckers, ahoy!

Mike Post - Including The "A-Team" [1984]

VS-88050

1984 / RCA / PL85183
Here's something that panders to my childhood - famed TV Theme Tune Composer Mike Post releases a long-player that includes his A-Team theme alongside some brilliant, Mike-Post-esque treatments of other hits such as Culture Club's Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and Jacko's Beat It. The latter sounds like it was lifted right out of an A-Team or Magnum P.I. episode! Let me know what you think!

Astrud Gilberto - I Haven't Got Anything Better To Do [1969 Mono]

VS-88049

1969 / Verve / MONO VLP 9242
Not the most famous Astrud Gilberto album but one of the poppiest, most consistent lounge efforts she produced certainly. Full of warm cuts, presented here in MONO, such as "Didn't We", Nilsson's "Wailing Of The Willow" and "Without Him". My favourite is "The Sea Is My Soil" which rivals the efforts on Herb Alpert's Warm album. There are stereo rips around of this release, but this MONO version is immaculate.

Walter Wanderley - When It Was Done [1969]

VS-88015

* New Remaster May 2014 *

1969 / A&M / AMLS 950
Thank heavens Walter Wanderley came to prominence in such a forgiving time – because his lounge/samba/bossa-nova albums are a comforting delight to yours truly! Deliciously blending the occasional sultry vocal with his relaxed organ sounds this is definitely one for the beach! The front cover should give you a good idea of how you will feel after listening to the eleven cuts on offer here! But don’t take my word for it…tuck in!

Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine - Anything For You (1987)

VS-88017

* New Remaster May 2014 *

1987 / Epic / 463125
This type of Eighties production is going out of fashion lately - I heard "1-2-3" in some club in London the other night and was immediately addicted - seeking out this Gloria Estefan album and remastering a good vinyl rip for you all to enjoy. There's lots of early Estefan / Miami Sound Machine gold here - such as "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" and "Betcha Say That"; ultimately this is the proof that Estefan could have been the Latino Madonna in the eighties.

The Mike Sammes Singers - Sounds Sensational [1965]

VS-88012

* New Remaster May 2014 *

1965 / EMI/Columbia - SMC 74 115
I heard an average rip of this album off the net years ago and fell in love with it. So much so I bought an original vinyl copy from abroad and did all my usual magic to make this rip IMHO the most sparkling of all. Here you'll find lush lounge singing from the Mike Sammes Singers covering a variety of standards from 1965. The whole album's a rare and forgotten gem never available on CD and here you can listen to it in CD quality. This is a pristine German rip of the LP. Let me know what you think!

Barry Gibb - Now Voyager [1984]

VS-88048

1984 / Polydor/ POLH 14
This Barry Gibb solo effort is quite rare considering how available most of the Bee Gees' output is usually. It's a patchy affair; Gibb strays into synth and non-falsetto on occasion but there are some amazing highlights - such as the duet with Olivia Newton-John called Face To Face or the gorgeous ballad One Night (For Lovers). As far as I know, this isn't available on CD - and this vinyl rip has been remastered for your Shipwreck pleasure!

Lynda Carter - Portrait (1978)

VS-88047

* New Remaster May 2014 *

1978 / CBS/Epic / JE 35308
The more seventies' actresses releasing albums the better in my book! Here's a truly wondrous album from TV's Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter! Very rare, and very good in the easy-listening pop/rock genre you know I love! Good sound quality too - so what ya waiting for!!

Cheryl Ladd - Dance Forever (1979)

VS-88046

* New Remaster May 2014 *

1979 / Capitol / ECS-81196
A just-as-good follow up to Cheryl's self-titled debut; although this one is a touch funkier and shows signs of a move towards more disco-pop! I think the second side is much stronger, and you should check out "You're The Only One I Ever Needed", "Missing You" and "Rock And Roll Slave".

Goldie Hawn - Goldie [1972]

VS-88045

1972 / Warner / MS 2061
Goldie Hawn! Oscar winning Actress! Lush beauty! Dizzyingly attractive persona! And now...to add to all of that...brilliant singer too! This 1972 effort is from a forgotten era - whereby famous celebrities could effortlessly switch genres and just cover a few standards from the day. Check out Goldie's bouncy cover of Joni Mitchell's "Carey" amongst others, but on the whole there's enough to enjoy throughout!

Jack Jones - Wives And Lovers [Mono 1963]

VS-88003

* New Remaster May 2014 *

1963 / Kapp/London - MONO HA-R 8167
Jack Jones never is discussed alongside Sinatra or Bennett but churned out classic album after classic album in the sixties and seventies. Bacharach's "Wives And Lovers" punchy number was the song that launched Jones, and here is the album, in pristine original mono and never released on CD!!

Bobby Goldsboro - Little Things [Mono 1965]

VS-88043

1965 / United Artist / UAL 3425
I confess, I found Bobby Goldsboro through being obsessed with the Burt Bacharach number Me Japanese Boy. I was on holiday in Vegas when I saw this LP above for 50 cents in Zia Records and snapped it up (along with thousands of others - difficult carrying on to a plane!) anyway I've remastered it and tidied it up and it sounds great considering how beat up it was! Enjoy!! Hopefully some more Goldsboro for you all soon....

Burt Bacharach - Lost Horizon OST [1973]

VS-88042

* New Remaster April 2014 *
1973 / Bell / 1300
I kept getting messages to repost this - so here you go! The film was a massive flop when it came out in 1973; Bacharach was losing his vogue and the musical feeling in the air was changing. However, the soundtrack is still brilliant Bacharach - you want proof then check out "The Things I Will Not Miss", "Reflections" or the vibrant, life-affirming "Question Me An Answer". The film isn't as bad as everyone says - though I did watch it on pristine Bluray; the soundtrack has been spun a dozen times or so since I acquired it! This has been released on CD from a vinyl master - but IMHO this rip is ten - actually no - a hundred times better! Enjoy!

Joanie Sommers - Sommers' Season [Mono 1963]

VS-88041

1963 / Warner Bros. / W 1504
This is a delightful, seasonal-themed collection of numbers performed with gusto and charm by the beloved Joanie Sommers! I first learned of her brilliance when I picked up some Japanese-mastered albums whist visiting Tokyo last year, and since then I've been obsessed with this album in particular and tracked down a mono copy. Rare as moonshine, whatever that means! Tuck in - and check out my fave song here - When Winter Comes!

John Barry - Conducts His Greatest Movie Hits [1967]

VS-88040

1967 / CBS / 63038
Here's a treat! John Barry conducting his greatest mid-sixties movie hits - from Bond to Born Free to The Girl With The Sun In Her Hair! This is a lot of Barry-tinged fun, and captures Barry at the height of his popularity in the swinging/lounge set!
